Woodshed

Chanced upon this cafe while trying to find a place for work and food. I have to say this is a really comfy place, not just for work or study, it is also perfect for a chillout or chat with friends. The place is rather spacious, with a sofa-cushion corner, a cabinet of magazines, chairs with cushion, etc. Not only is the ambience a plus point, the service is plus plus point! Very friendly staff.

Friend: Do you have power source here?
Woodshed staff: Oh yes, we have alot.
*My eyes gleamed* Because my laptop cannot live without a power source.

Counter with display of cakes in front (did not manage to capture the cakes)
Rattan chairs, sofas, water dispensary corner, etc..

Brick like walls

Cabinet of magazines

My favourite lavender early grey! SGD 5.90
My friend ordered espresso that comes with coffee and the combination of these two is amazing. There is a pie which we also ordered and it tastes not too bad. I like the chocolate as it comes with a tinge of bitterness. Not too sweet.

Vast Hair

I decided to go for a haircut after a long long while and I chanced upon the hair salon Vast Hair through a blog. Honestly, I always have a hard time deciding which hair salon to go to because I am cautious in handing the fate of my hair to another person. I have terrible experience before and I do not want to go through that again. That is why I visited Vast Hair after seeing positive reviews on it.

I have to say I like the experience there but be prepared to stay there for at least 2 hours for a haircut, treatment and hair wash. This shop was opened for about a month when I visited 2 weeks ago. The interior is brightly lit and it does have the professional hair salon feel. Upon entering, I was greeted by one of their hair stylists. I like the fact that he asked my hair concern and the kind of haircut I am expecting or looking for. From there, he provided suggestions. And... most importantly, I love the current haircut I have now!

That is not just because of the hair cut alone, but also the experience there. Both the hair stylists were friendly and would strike conversations with you. They are also concern whether you are comfortable while waiting for the treatment to be done, like asking if you are ok. I seldom receive this kind of treatment in a hair salon and it is nice to know that your hair is in good hands.

Look for hairdresser who cares about you!

Curbside Cafe & Wine Bar

I am off to the third cafe of the week, indulging while working. I am slowly getting used to the nature of my job where I get to spend time to do the things I like while still working. It is inconvenient for me actually sometimes because I have a laptop which I call a portable desktop. I am very dependent on power source to wherever I go because the laptop battery is spoilt. I cannot blame it since it has accompanied me since my uni days. There is sentimental value to it. Anyway, this is why I always look for a conducive working place with both wifi and power plugs. This newly open cafe fits the bill.

Although there is a bit of walking from bouna vista train station, it is worth the walk. Good food, great service! There is something funky about the place and the staff.

I ordered a plate of Cod Fish and Chips. Unlike most deep fried fish fillet, it is not covered by thick layer of flour and you can see the freshness the moment you slice it. You do not even have to use a knife to cut it into bite size. The green paste (made from vegetables I suspect) on the plate goes really really well with the fish. It lifts the tastes of the fish.

d'Good Cafe

Here I am, in the cafe with rain pelting down outside. How nice it is to be sipping a cup of This is the third time I am here and I think I will come back here again. It is a nice place to chill out with friends but you will see many students studying here. It is no surprise because the place is conducive for study with the right ambience - not too noisy (although it can get a little loud between 3-4pm). There is ample power source with good wifi, just appropriate for people who wish to use their laptops or charge their phone.

There are 2 levels to this cafe and the thing I love about this place - white interior! It makes the place bright and comfortable. There are sofas and even swings on the lower level. On the upper floor, there are toddler-tall teddy bears and beany cushions. If you prefer enjoying a cuppa under the sun, they have seats outside too which makes you feel like you are in a mini garden. I like the fact they have an eye for details in the decorations. There is even a tiny corner with small table and chairs, just like a kids corner. Ooohh.. I so like the place.

As I am not a fan of coffee, I decided to have tea. I thought lavender with my usual favourite Earl Grey Tea sounds interesting and so I place my pick on that. And... I fall in love with it immediately! It is not the usual clear cup of tea; it is frothy and has a milky texture to it (not too thick). Earl Grey Tea with a tinge of lavender taste to it. You can even smell the lavender fragrance on the froth. Surprisingly, it has a kind of calming effect on me. I was stressed out early this morning because of the number of tasks to complete for work but not anymore now. :) Nice drink!

Earl - Lavender Tea

I had Apple Crumble. I am glad it comes in a size a little bigger than cupcake because it fits the room in my tummy just right. The usual Apple Crumble I had before has a crispy crumb top and I am actually looking for it while eating. It kind of disappoint me, perhaps because of the vanilla gelato that tops it. But it is still a decent enough pie.

My Art Space Cafe

A quiet place that stands tranquil in the upbeat town in Singapore. Situated just opposite Istana, it is fairly accessible from Dhoby Ghaut MRT station or bus stop and it is a delightful surprise to find a serene place for me time or time with friends in the midst of the buzz. I believe the tranquillity comes from sunshine streaming through the glass panels that walled the place and the surrounding water; it is definitely a place for some alone time. Honestly, it is the ambience that really attracts me, especially when I need some time alone. Imagine.. Sitting on a cosy cushioned-chair, sipping matcha latte, savouring Salmon sandwich, reflecting, watching time passes by as customers enter and leave. Time seems to have slowed down for you to take a breather. I love this kind of feeling. If you feel like surfing net, they have free Wi-Fi. If you need power source, they have too. A tiny but cosy place which I will visit again.

November 8 Coffee & Company

"Where Coffee and Food Meets Good Company..."

Just as what the slogan states, it is a perfect place for gathering over coffee and food. Tucked in a corner along Upper Thomson Road, you will not miss this cafe. First the huge name, then the colourful wooden feel as you look into the place. As you enter, you will be greeted by cheerful and friendly staff. It is dimly lit but comfortable.

Hazelnut Latte - $5.50

Salmon Egg Benedict

November Egg - $18
Scrambled Egg with Smoked Salmon, Gourmet York Ham, Portobello Mushroom, Tomato & creamy Avocado spread

Berrilicious Waffle - $9
Topped with Fresh Raspberries, Blueberries and Ice cream
I always have cravings for waffles and I had a hard time deciding between a all day breakfast main or a waffle for dessert. Because it seems like their November Egg is their signature and I would not be able to finish both! And so.. my friend who saw me contemplating very hard, suggested to share the waffle! It is always nice to have a friend who knows you inside out! :) When my plate came, my first thought was "Wow!". November Egg came in huge portion because of the variety. But there was a purpose for each on the plate and to eat each with different combination gives unique taste. I liked the little surprise with different combination, especially the toasted bread with avocado scramble egg, tomato and salmon. Salmon was a little on the salty side but it fitted perfectly with the rest. Not too bad. My friend liked her Salmon breakfast too! Looks like the chef understands the taste of each items and to combine them on the plate in such interesting colour also liven our mood for consumption.

Next up - Waffle! A little crispy on the outside and the berry ice cream went along well with the waffle. Although I was already very full from my main, it still would not feel complete without dessert and the waffle did not disappoint me (and my calorie intake!).

Service was not too bad (with smiley staff) but when it got crowded towards 8pm, the food will get a little too long to be served. The good thing is the staff will give you a heads up and you can decide whether to wait for the food. The place is good for talks with friends and gatherings if you like a not-so-quiet environment. There is wifi in the place as well if you need to get connected.
